The Queens County Farm Museum's history dates back to 1697; it occupies New York City's largest remaining tract of undisturbed farmland and is the only working historical farm in the City. There is almost no better place to celebrate Oktoberfest in New York City after the Steuben Day Parade than here!

This years GERMAN-AMERICAN STEUBEN DAY PARADE marked its 50th anniversary. Once again Marie and Jerry lead the Schlierachtaler in full force as we danced our way up Fifth Avenue!
Joining us were thousands of German-Americans from across NYC metro area, plus visitors from Texas, New England and other areas across the USA, and from 50 groups from Germany. In celebration of those many contributions of immigrants from German speaking countries who helped form and preserve our American way of life. This year’s historic parade was lead by the famed German born Henry Kissinger. Afterwards, the Schlierachtaler joined revelers in the historic center of Yorkville (86th and 2nd ave) and continued the celebration with our fellow New Yorkers and guest!
The attached pictures were taken by our new friend at WWW.FAMIOUSANKLES.COM -- "H" has allowed us to exhibit "the largest pictural of this event" throughout the wide world web! I highly recommend you to visit his www.FamousAnkles.com (search Steuben Parade)and read his commentary on experiencing this parade from the eyes of a New Yorker! Afterwards, we continued our celebration into the "historic center of German Yorkville" On the Upper East Side we celebrated with our fellow New Yorkers and visitors -- and rumor had it that Michael Broderick & Sarah Jessica Parker were in the area celebrating Ferris Bueller 21th aniversary. All I can say (or sing) now is "DANKE SCHOEN!"

Now, Burgermeister Meisterburger was a very grouchy man. The day that he tripped on a toy and hurt his leg he outlawed toys in Franklin Square Long Island. The children of the Schlierachtaler were very sad. What would life be like with no toys? Along came Mr. Pelz-Nickl, whom they renamed Kris Kringle (because the meaning of KRISTKINDL is Christ Child), who began dropping off toys to the children of the Schlierachtaler -- this infuriated the Burgenmeister and he made Kris "Public Enemy #1." Talk about grouchy? Yes, it's a wonderful story with a great ending and one which doesn't have to end. Perhaps that why we should always give more than we receive.

Christmas in July!
We couldn't wait until our 78th Edelweiss Ball (on 12-02-2006) to celebrate and dance -- so we teamed up with the P.V.V. and put on a great show at the German-American Beer Festival (a.k.a. "The Volksfest") at Plattdeutsche Park.
By this point of the year, many of those who attended either had flip-flop tan marks on their feet, a collection of festival bands around their wrist, sun-bleached hairs on their heads, or enough of that summer-long imprisonment in their air-con homes and were ready to salvage the summer weekend with loads of fun, games, German "Bier und Musik", and dancing! All this was possible and the 90+ degree temperature could not stop the action!

The teenagers of the Schlierachtaler and Edelweiss Passaic carried the FIFA "Fair Play" flag onto the turf at Giant Stadium. Afterwards, the game began and the Red Bulls beat the German Bundesliga champions 4-2 in front of 5,173 at Giants Stadium. The results may have been a suprise, but the fact that Bayern Munich had 10 players away and training with their respective World Cup national teams made the game a evenly matched friendly game. following the game the fun continued as the smell of bratwurst and sounds of german music and song coming from the Young German-American's tailgate helped ease any disapointments with the outcome of the game!
